ANATOMY FOR PILATES INSTRUCTORS

Register

Anatomy + Movement

Understand the structure and function of bones, joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments as well as the origin, insertion and action of the major muscles in this course.

To complete your Pilates Certification, you must complete ALL three Anatomy workshops; Anatomy of the Limbs, Anatomy of the Trunk and Deconstructing Pilates. There is no specific order as to which course to take first.

CAN'T MAKE A LIVE WORKSHOP? NO PROBLEM!

You can rent past Teacher Training workshops, mat classes and other helpful videos on our Vimeo page. Click the link below to see what we have available.

Anatomy: Movement of the Limbs

Good teachers know the names of muscle groups, great teachers can use their understanding of anatomy to create better programs for their clientele. In Anatomy of the Limbs, you will study all major muscle groups pertaining to your major upper extremity joint movements and muscles and their primary actions in the body. We will then apply this knowledge to the Pilates repertoire. Memorizing the names of muscle groups will not enhance your teaching but learning anatomy while moving your body will.

In Anatomy of the Trunk, you will study all major muscle groups pertaining to your skeleton, spine extension, lateral flexion, rotation, stabilization, hip flexion, hip extension, hip adduction, hip abduction and their primary actions in the body. We will then apply this knowledge to the Pilates repertoire.

This workshop will focus on only a few exercises to help breakdown the movement sequence, purpose, muscle activity, modifications for specific injuries, cueing, purpose of the exercise, modifications for all levels, and precautions.
